Nina started at the clinic since the take-over in 2014: before that she was working at a clinic in Hillcrest. She sees to patient care, preparing animals for theater and liaising with clients. She is an avid supporter of puppy training, and a wiz at raising baby kittens.
Nicola manages our front shop. She is born and bred in Maritzburg, currently taking a gap-year after completing her post-grad studies in social sciences. She plans to work in the NGO sector, using education as a means of developing and furthering both people and their communities, but in the meantime is a big asset to our clinic!
Rayne is the newest addition to our team. She is a first-year education student at Damelin – studying foundation phase. She has a staffy called Maya, and is soon to be getting her very first cat (She is very excited!). Rayne works in the afternoons. She also is a very professional house-sitter and babysitter.
Jameson is our kennel hand. He is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the hospital and kennels and sterilising our surgical instruments. He has been here many years and knows the in’s and out’s.
Beauty is our cleaner. She also is a nanny for Dr Estèe’s 16-month old baby boy who is often gallivanting at the practice.
Doreen is our part-time cleaning lady. She helps us to clean up after all the animals and also helps us with sterilizing and ironing some of our surgical equipment. She makes our lives much easier and makes everything smell nice!
We pride ourselves in trying to school our owners to give their animals the best possible care, nutrition, de-worming and parasite care they can afford. We try and make it easier by sending SMS and postcard reminders for vaccinations, deworming and Bravecto. We also offer home visits for vaccinations in the immediately surrounding areas to the practice.
Sick animals are brought in for full examinations and we also have a small hospital for hospitalized cases. Although we do not offer 24 hour care, someone comes in at night and one weekends to check on the animals – and the very sick ones go home with the vet (with permission of the owner). We know our patients by name and pride ourselves in it. Unfortunately we do not have isolation facilities.
We offer puppy vaccinations, litter vaccinations, annual vaccinations as well as kennel cough vaccinations. Special vaccinations for breeders such as Herpes can be done on request. Our normal cat vaccine includes feline leukemia virus – we believe in rather keeping our patients healthy than treating the sick ones.
We are very pro-micro-chipping and offer different types of microchips – some at a very reasonable cost. All strays that are picked up and brought to the clinic are also micro-chipped.
We have an ultrasonic scaler and polisher, as well as full set of extraction equipment. Animal’s teeth are usually cleaned and extracted under general anaesthesia – so best to make an appointment to see a veterinarian first.
Routine doesn’t always mean simple! We offer a broad range of routine surgeries such as sterilizations, but also a few others like mass removals, cherry eyes, caesarian sections, othematomas – just to mention a few.
After the age of 8 – animals need extra special care. We offer a variety of cost-effective in-house tests to try and detect normal old-age problems in animals and to start treatment early.
We stock a wide range of food – general and prescription diets from trusted companies. (Hills, Eukanuba, Iams, Royal Canin, Sanimed, Ultradog, Olympic, Acana and Origin). We help clients finding the right food for their specific needs by doing cost-per-day comparisons, enrolling in loyalty programs and even by weighing the food and sending measuring cups home. Our staff are all trained to advise, but veterinary advice is always available too.
Believe it or not, sometimes people forget to bring them to the examination!
